Basashi or horse meat is one my favourite. It’s mostly eaten raw in Japan from what I’ve seen. Now, I know many people are repulsed by the idea of eating horse meat. I get it. I love horses too. But I’m not turned off by it.



Until Basashiya Masashi, I had only tried basashi without thinking of which cut I was being served. This was my first experience trying various cuts prepared in different ways other than sashimi or yukhoe (tartare).
I absolutely loved it! and I now love horse meat even more. The raw liver and marbled meat cuts closest to the diaphragm were probably my favourite. The horse bacon was a little chewier than pork bacon but delicious. As was the rest. Would totally recommend…if you can stomach horse meat.
