Changlai: Lucky food find on Shamian Island

While Shamian island provided a nice walk, there were no nice restaurants in sight. Until we stumbled upon Changlai Food Stall. It was the best seafood we had in Guangzhou. Not that we had much of it considering it was death by dimsum mostly.

Shamian Island is not that easily accessible by public transport. Its a good 30-minute walk from the nearest station and takes crossing multiple streets and overhead bridges. Once you reach it, it’s a pleasant walk at best. The architecture is clearly very different from the rest of Guangzhou. Very European. When it came time for lunch, I was a little worried. We didn’t see any restaurant that far into our walk. We stumbled upon Changlai Food Stall by pure luck and I’m glad we did. It’s a seafood restaurant. Their fish was great and so was the squid and oysters. Defo recommend!

We didn’t see many restaurants on our way back either. It’s probably wise to add Changlai as your lunch spot if you’re heading to Shamian Island.

The walk to Shamian. It was an extremely warm day. In summer, do not forget your hats, umbrellas and plenty of water!
