Motsukichi Shibuya

One of the best meals I’ve had on this trip. Beef offal soup, slow cooked liver, rare heart, a menu that tantalises the taste buds. Without seeing it and a booking on Tabelog, I would never have known this place existed. Although it’s right across Hands in Shibuya where I’ve been many times.

It is on the 8th floor and unless you understand Japanese, it’s easy to miss the sign on the ground floor to the place. I’m glad I did book it and I did find it!

The motsunabe meant for one person could easily satisfy two of us. It came with chunks of what I thought was fats. Might have been the linings of one of the stomachs. It was delicious. Once we finished it, they prepared a risotto with the left over in the pot with rice, extra broth and cheese. It was much better than I care to admit. Not a ‘risotto’ by any means. More like a porridge with stringy cheese. Delish no matter! Instead of risotto, I saw another table add udon to the leftover with some extra broth, which I’m sure was also great.

All their other dishes were incredible. The liver was a clear winner for me. It still had the irony taste which unlike many I do enjoy. Raw heart with egg yolk had that slight crunch heart has. Delicious as was the raw beef with sea urchin yukhoe. I ended my dinner with some pastrami on baguette. It was good but I had better (Meatsmith in Singapore serves glorious ones). Dessert was a creme caramel which was nice.

I highly suggest you try this restaurant. And no doubt you will need a reservation, like I had on Tabelog.
