We had just arrived back in Tokyo from Yuzawa on a much longer drive than expected – 5 hours instead of 3 because a blocked motorway forced us to take the mountain pass: Route 17.
As it was somewhat colder that night, we decided to have some ramen. Oreryu seemed a good option. I realised afterwards that Oreryu is a big ramen chain. They are from Shibuya which explains their widespread presence in the area.

I tried the spicy miso ramen while the fam tried the tonkotsu. Mine was excellent. Noodles were thick, broth was rich, with an addition of what looked like black spicy garlic sauce and a wad of crushed garlic. There was unfortunately not much meat. Unlike the tonkotsu which came with beautiful slices of charshu. The noodles were thinner and the broth seemed lighter but it was great nonetheless.

They also had a very interesting selection of condiments I’ve never seen before.

Might be a gimmick but I loved the chilli oil, citrus chilli paste and plum. A chain I wouldn’t mind visiting again.
