Sakana Ryori Enshuya

A fish specialty izakaya in Asakusa. We had a large-ish sashimi platter, some grilled wild caught grouper, some grilled eel and eel liver, and some shabu shabu with slices of wild caught yellow tail. Added a few sticks of tsukune and chicken skin sticks to that.

Enshuya was also the first restaurant I tried in Tokyo, well Japan, with a reservation I made on Tabelog. If you’ve been to Japan and searched for good restaurants, you probably already know about Tabelog. It is THE site to go to for restaurants reviewed by locals. Has never disappointed. A reservation cost JPY880. I was glad it all worked out as I had many more in the coming days.

Food was excellent. Sashimi was great, especially the octopus, red seabream and yellowtail tuna. One of the very few times the octopus was not chewy and had a good bite to it. The wild caught grouper was nice but nothing to shout about. I’m not all that familiar with the difference between a wild caught and a farmed one to be honest. The chicken skin was divine! I usually like it crisp. There, it was more on the chewy side but was somehow really really good. Tsukune was also great. Eel was a good start to our stay in Asakusa which is known to have some excellent eel restaurants. Reservation at Unetatsu tomorrow, can’t wait!

Enshuya is very close to Tawaramachi Station, or a slightly longer walk from Asakusa station.
