An old favourite. They have several outlets across busy areas in most big cities in Japan. And they have had the most consistently good food so far among sushi chains I’ve tried. This was my first time trying the one in Asakusa. It didn’t disappoint.

I had just left Namiki Yabusoba, itself a fantastic restaurant serving soba for more than a century. So Sushizanmai was a second lunch. I opted for a light platter of sashimi, a plate of ankimo and a couple of sushis. Seared wagyu, kama toro, and kani miso gunkan. I also shared some shishamo with the fam. Kama toro is hard to find and when you do , it’s usually very expensive. Same goes for seared wagyu. As for kani miso, it’s seasonal. All three were fantastic and above all else, great value! My sashimi had a selection of white fish, i believe alfonsino, red seabream. I also had some chutoro and otoro, a couple of types of ebi and some silver fish, probably gizzard shad and aji. All delicious and great value as well. Sushizanmai is one of these places I would highly recommend to anyone, where you are in Japan.
