After Miyajima, we had only a few hours to spare in Hiroshima before heading to Kyoto. Naturally, I wanted to see the A-Bomb Dome and understand the extent of the destruction. The Peace Memorial museum tour and graphic photos of the devastation were a chilling reminder of the atrocities of war.

I grew up hearing about ‘little boy‘ and the utter devastation it caused, during and after. I suppose that. subconsciously, I half expected the place to have a taint of this catastrophe but that was not the case. Hiroshima today is a bustling city as any other. It’s encouraging to see how resilient people are and how they can pick up the pieces and move on. It is a City of Peace in Japan and they advocate the abolition of all nuclear weapons.

SushiZamurai

A few metres away from Hiroshima station, we had some great sushi at Sushizamurai. We missed an early train to Kyoto and had two hours to burn before the next one. At first, we were pretty peeved as we were looking forward to get to Kyoto. But that all changed once we got to try the sushi at SushiZamurai. Their seafood was really fresh and since we were there in the later part of the afternoon, we had the place to ourselves.

I doubt I will visit Hiroshima again except perhaps on the way to Miyajima but I’m glad I had those few hours there to visit the museum and peace park.
